as 'thyroxine'. The methods have been reviewed by Harington (1933) and Salter (1940). On adapting the original butanol-extraction procedure of Leland & Foster (1932), as modified by Blau (1935), to artificially. iodinated proteins, Reineke, Turner, Kohler, Hoover & Beezley (1945) compared their results with those of biological assay in the guinea pig and were led to conclude that the chemical methodreliably accounted for the thyroxinepresent; the properties of any non-thyroxine component of the butanol layer would need to parallel closely those ofthyroxine itself. From an examination ofthyroidgland preparations from different species, Parkes (1946) concluded that a fairly close relationship exists between acid-insoluble iodine (and total iodine) and the biological activity as determined in the Xenop<u tadpole. O-Anisidine Degradation by Fenton’s Reagent and Reaction Time Estimation
O-Anisidines (OAs) are extensively used as an intermediate for chemical reactions to produce various triphenylmethane and azo dyes, and also in manufacturing numerous pigments. They are found to be highly toxic and have carcinogenic properties, so it is imperative to treat OA solutions before disposal. In this study a promising approach to degrade OA solutions has been carried out using Fenton’...
متن کاملA colorimetric method for the determination of glucosamine and chondrosamine.
A COLORIMETRIC method for the determination of glucosamine has recently been described by Zuckerkandl and Messiner-Klebermass [1931]. According to their procedure the test-solution, which should contain between 1 and 4 mg. glucosamine hydrochloride, is evaporated to dryness and treated with a freshly prepared solution of sodium methoxide. The free glucosamine base is then cautiously acetylated ...
متن کاملThe direct colorimetric estimation of reducing sugars and other reducing substances with tetrazolium salts.
Since Kuhn & Jerchel (1941) showed that tetrazolium salts were reduced by bacteria, yeasts and germinating seeds, 2:3:5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride or bromide has come into prominence as a viability testing reagent (Cottrell, 1947) and for vital staining (Mattson, Jensen & Dutcher, 1947). Its specific advantages for this purpose and for the purposes which follow lie in its Eo value of -008 V....

The synthesis of the title compound, bitamycin, by means of BU4NF is described. This new antiviral drug was found to be one of the most powerful and least toxic substances for antiviral therapy in man. The physical and chemical behavior as well as the antiviral activities and clinical properties of this compound were found to be significantly different from that reported by Schaeffer, et a...
